why yes, i am naked

Where is the summer going?

The summer seems to be speeding by, and as the summer starts its journey away from life here in Dallas, I am wondering where all my naked time has been spent.

While the social part of nudism has been more limited this year, I think most of my time at home has been spent either naked or close to naked. I know people here this all the time, but there are so many benefits to going naked. It’s better for the body (the body cools down much faster when you are nude), the skin can breathe more (all over), and it’s comfortable beyond belief. There are other benefits, like having less laundry to do in the summer (especially as I am not a fan of laundry), and cooling costs being lower.

Of course, I have been “out there” in the textile world a lot more this summer with a new job that has kept me out of the house more than I have done in the past. Naturally, as soon as I walk through my door, I’m back to where I should be.

I still have to get to Hippie Hollow this summer and spend the day soaking up the rays by the lake.

Sensible Nudism

There is no question that I loved being naked. Give me a chance to be naked either solo or with others, and I’m there. But while I love “being naked” (a name I was thinking for this blog), there is a certain sensibility that goes along with that. That sensibility is most evident in the cooler months, or winter (as we call it here).

There is nothing enjoyable with shivering because you are cold, when there is an option to do something about it. Some may say just to crank the heat up in the house, and all the problems will be solved. Alas the sensibility factor kicks in and suggests that it is not reasonable to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on heating when you could just put on a sweater and sweat pants. (My preference is very loose baggy sweat pants, just as a by the way.)

Of course, if the opportunity to get naked with others was there, my sensibilities disappear. Where the sensibilities kick in is keeping my house hot all the time so I can be naked with temperatures close to freezing. It’s cool, but not in the “cool” way.

So the point of this story? I want the warmer weather back so I can get up, stay naked and not have to worry about being a sensible nudist.

Being Young and Naked

I just read a good article on the adoption of social nudism by younger people. I think the casualness of the article and the people interviewed really highlights what it is to be nude socially. At least I associate with what they have to say.

One point that is true (in my view), but is changing is the reference to visiting resorts. The age range is skewed towards the older population, but I do think that this is changing. The demographics of resort membership may not change, but the diversity in age is very evident with some of the special activities that are hosted at resorts (e.g. fun runs, etc.).  There are probably a large pile of studies that explain why older people are more comfortable or more willing to socialize naked with others, or belong to resorts. I think this has more to do with why older people (i.e. retired people) do a lot of things: they have the time, and they have the money.

There have even been some articles about the death of naturism if a younger population doesn’t start to embrace the lifestyle. One observation I have made is that lately I’ve been seeing more younger people attend activities, so I don’t believe that naturism will “die.” I do feel that the face of naturism is changing, and this article really shares how this is happening (in part).
